Albert Sánchez appointed new coach of Barça Atlètic
Albert Sánchez is the new coach of Barça Atlètic. The native of Esplugues de Llobregat in Catalonia has reached an agreement with FC Barcelona to run the reserve team for one season until 30 June 2025.
The 37-year-old is taking the reins from Rafa Márquez, who he has assisted for the last two years, helping them into the promotion playoffs in both 2022/23 and 2023/24.
The first attempt to go up ended in defeat in the semi-finals, while last year the team came even closer, eventually losing the final. But despite not achieving promotion, the team had a fantastic campaign, with many of the squad now consolidated as members of the senior squad.
Fourth year at FC Barcelona
Before those two years serving under Márquez, Sánchez was assistant coach to Òscar López with the U19A team in 2021/22, winning not only the División de Honor but also the Copa de Campions.
Before that, the Catalan picked up a wealth of experience from working in different countries. He was in China as assistant coach at Beijing Sports University (2018/19), in Kuwait in the same role at Qadsia SC (2019/20), winning the Super Cup and contesting the Asian Champions League, and in Saudi Arabia at Al Fateh (2020/21), managing the U20 team.
Coaching Barça Atlètic is his biggest challenge yet, where he is tasked with both achieving success with the team and preparing players for the step up to senior level.
