Ellie Roebuck joins FC Barcelona until 2026
FC Barcelona and Ellie Roebuck have reached an agreement for the 24-year-old English goalkeeper to join the club on a deal until 30 June 2026.
Long career at Man City
Roebuck joins Barça from Manchester City, where she has been for nine years, rising from the academy to the senior squad. Born in Sheffield, she has played over 100 times for her club and is also an England international. Her many honours include one English league and three FA Cups, as well as the European Championship with her country, and reaching the final of the last World Cup. From those experiences, she obviously knows Lucy Bronce and Keira Walsh very well indeed.
Barça style
Roebuck is famed for her footwork, which is just the kind of keeper that Barça like, and is extraordinarily brave. At 1.74m tall, she brings the perfect blend of youth and experience from her many years of service to the Citizens and the Lionesses, and now would appear to be the perfect moment to take things to a new level at FC Barcelona, as she himself told the club media.
What she says:
“I am very excited. I'd been waiting for this chance for a long time. I'm very happy to be here. You could say that now everything fits and this was the perfect time to come."
“I want to test myself and live a new experience. There's nowhere better to do that than here, so I'm really grateful to get this opportunity."
“I like to play with the ball at my feet and this is the perfect team to do that with. I enjoy possession and playing out from the back, so I hope to contribute my style."
