Valencia first opponent of the 2024/25 LaLiga season
The 2024/25 season is starting to take shape. LaLiga released the fixtures for the tournament on June 18 during a brief hiatus from the international football at Euro24. We now know that Valencia will be Hansi Flick's FC Barcelona side's first opponent.
The game will be played during the weekend of August 16-18, which is the first date to circle on the blaugrana schedule. It will be just a week after the Paris Olympic Games men's football final at the Parc des Princes stadium. The draw at the Royal Spanish Football Federation's headquarters determined that Barça will play their first league game away from home.
It's also worth noting that there will be four midweek matchdays during this 2024/25 LaLiga season.
El Clásico
The dates for both games against Real Madrid in the competition have also been decided. The first will be played at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, fulfilling the matchday 11 fixture on the weekend of October 26-27. The matchday 35 game in Barcelona will be played during the weekend of May 10-11.
The derbies
The dates when Barça and Girona play each other have also been announced. The first Catalan derby will be at the Estadi Olímpic on the weekend of September 14-15 for matchday 5, while the second for matchday 19 will be played at the Montilivi stadium on the weekend of March 29-30.
With Espanyol potentially being promoted to the first division, the games against the blue and whites would take place at home on the weekend of February 2-3 for matchday 12 and on the weekend of May 13-14 for matchday 36 at Cornellà.
Other key games
The final game of the 24/25 season will see a trip to play Athletic Club in Bilbao, whereas the last game of this calendar year will be against Atlético Madrid at the Metropolitan stadium on December 22, before the first game of 2025 will see Getafe v Barça on January 11.
Dates to keep in mind
Looking beyond the 2024/25 LaLiga season, which runs until the weekend of May 23-25, there will also be three international breaks - October 7 to 15, November 11 to 19, and March 17 to 25.
League football will also stop for the festive break in December and January, with the final games played on December 22, before the competition restarts on the weekend of Jan 10-12, when the Spanish Super Cup featuring Barça, Real Madrid, Athletic Club and Mallorca will also be played. The break from LaLiga will also see the last 32 round of the Copa del Rey played around Jan 6.
So, LaLiga schedule confirmed after the draw and the countdown to the new season begins.
