Ibiza 1-2 Barça Atlètic: On target at Can Misses

Great result means there will be a one-goal head start for the reserves in the second leg of the promotion playoff at the Estadi Johan Cruyff

Barça Atlètic are coming back from Ibiza knowing that the playoff semi-final is on perfect course. Rafa Márquez's side won 2-1 at Can Misses on Sunday night and are one step closer to the goal of playing second division football next term.

Pau Víctor and Marc Guiu got the goals in an extremely tough encounter in which Ibiza did all they could to make life difficult for the men in blaugrana. Brilliant Barça Atlètic defending played a huge role in this result, but there are still 90 more minutes to be played next Saturday at 7.30pm CET, but this time on home turf.

Tight battle

Things hadn't got off to the best of starts at all when Cedric Omoigui headed Ibiza into the lead after just 11 minutes. But Barça reacted perfectly, a lovely piece of combination play involving Casadó and Bernal ending with Pau Víctor adding the finishing touch to make it 1-1, just two minutes after going behind.

Pelayo and Pau Víctor had great chances to put Barça in front, but then Ibiza found their feet again, and the remainder of the first half was mainly about the Barça defence, and also the woodwork, keeping the islanders' onslaught at bay.

Winning strike

Ibiza continued to threaten after the restart, with Marc Vidal making a particularly important save. So it was somewhat against the run of play when a Marc Bernal through ball put Marc Guiu one-on-one against the Ibiza keeper, and that was Barça into the lead.

The home side were infuriated with themselves for getting caught out, and raged forward in the final minutes looking to at least snatch an equaliser. Obalskii had two chances, one of which bounded back off the crossbar, and Cedric could have scored too. Some simply fabulous defending meant Barça came out of it all unscathed.

So the reserves lead 2-1 and will have home advantage at the Estadi Johan Cruyff next weekend. But from what we have seen today, this tie is anything but over. Ibiza are a formidable opponent, and there could yet be further twists in this story. Let's hope they are all twists for the better...
