Pedri scores first FC Barcelona brace

He started on the bench against Rayo, but came on to score two in a game for the first time in the blaugrana jersey

There was never any doubt that Pedri is one of the best players in the world, but injury troubles have meant we have been denied the chance to see him at his best this season. But the 3-0 victory over Rayo on Sunday gave us a fine reminder of what the Canary Islander can do. Despite only coming on in the second half, he scored not once but twice to help secure a place in the Spanish Super Cup.

There was less than half an hour to go when he came on as a substitute, and just 13 minutes later he was to beat Stole Dimitrievski. Some fabulous footwork from João Félix in the build-up was completed by a left-footed strike that bounded off the defence and the crossbar on its way towards the back of the net.

His second goal was also scored with the weaker of his two feet. A tremendous long ball up the park from Ronald Araujo, and he beat three defenders to gain control of the ball and rattle in his second of a memorable evening at the Estadi Olimpic.

With just 2 minutes and 44 seconds between the first and second goals, it was the fourth fastest brace in this season's league.
