New mannequins in Barça Store to foster diversity and inclusion
FC Barcelona is continuing its commitment to diversity and inclusion with the presentation of new inclusive mannequins in its stores. The purpose of this action is to reflect the diversity in our society by representing the full variety of bodies, abilities and disabilities.
Historically, mannequins have depicted an ideal of beauty, perpetuating stereotypes and excluding many people who did not feel represented. FC Barcelona wants to promote the alternative view that sport is beneficial for everyone regardless of their physical condition.
Starting today in the Barça Stores at Spotify Camp Nou, Passeig de Gracia, Canaletas, La Maquinista and Madrid, visitors will find fully integrated mannequins in wheelchairs, with leg and arm prostheses, mannequins with prescription sports glasses and cochlear implants, as well as other models in larger size.
An idea that is here to stay
This initiative, promoted by the FC Barcelona Diversity, Equity and Inclusion department, together with the Barça Identity and BLM areas, intends to naturally integrate the evolution of current society in the form of new mannequins that more accurately reflect true diversity so that more people feel included, the ultimate message being that sportswear and fashion are for everyone.
Far from being a one-off action, inclusive mannequins will be included in all Barça Stores and will eventually become part of their image.
FC Barcelona and European Diversity Month
Once again this year, FC Barcelona is celebrating European Diversity Month, which happens every May throughout the European Union to raise awareness of the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and in our society. The FC Barcelona Diversity, Equity and Inclusion department runs projects involving other areas with the aim of promoting inclusive communication, recognition of the singularities and differences of each individual, and accessibility. Although FC Barcelona obviously works for diversity throughout the year, in European Diversity Month it intensifies its efforts to make the issue even more visible.
