10th Copa de la Reina trophy for Barça Women
Barça Women have claimed their 10th Copa de la Reina almost 30 years after their first ever victory in the competition. The win over Real Sociedad is another success for the team and means they have now completed the domestic double for the second time with their fifth appearance in the Champions League final to come next week.
Fourth in five years
Jonatan Giráldez's team have dominated the cup competition over the last five seasons with four victories in the competition, three in four finals under the Galician coach.
For Alexia Putellas it will be her eighth victory in the Copa de la Reina, no other player has as many winners' medals and the player from Mollet de Vallès has been part of every winning blaugrana side except those of 1994 and 2011.
30 years on from the first
Way back when the team first claimed the Copa de la Reina title, the team were called Club Feminino Barcelona, an amateur section at FC Barcelona. In the final they defeated league champions Oroquieta Villaverde, the favourites. Goals from Olga and Àfrica gave the blaugranes victory as well as a brilliant performance from keeper Roser Serra, starting a run that has culminated with the team taking their collection of cup titles into double figures.
