Barça 8-0 Madrid CFF: Full steam ahead

A fabulous display at the Estadi Johan Cruyff moves the women to within touching distance of the league title

Barça steam-rolled their way past Madrid CFF despite several of the winning team from Stamford Bridge being rested and on Saturday they could be mathematically confirmed as league champions.

A sell-out crowd of 5,227 paid tribute before the game to the second team, who have just been confirmed champions of their own division, and also Patri Guijarro on the occasion of her 300th appearance. Indeed Patri was involved in two great chances before a steal by her led to Alexia's opening goal on 7 minutes.

A deflection off the defence helped Mariona double up the lead and Clàudia Pina was on the end of a subtle Alexia assist to make it three. And there was still time for two more before the break. Mariona supplied Vicky López for a sweet turn-and-shoot to make it 4-0, which she refused to celebrate seeing as it was against her teenage club, and Esmee Brugts got her name on goal number five.

Barça continued to dominate the second half, but could 'only' score three more. Two of those were the work of Torrejón, both with her head, and a rocket from Ona Batlle finished the rout in the second minute of injury time.

8-0 it ended, and another win on Saturday against Granada and the league title is officially blaugrana.
