Vueling becomes official airline of Barça Women's football team
Vueling, one of Europe's leading airlines, is to become the Official Airline of the Barça Women's football team in the form of a partnership deal through to 30 June 2026. Based on shared values and a shared origin in the city of Barcelona, the two parties hope to use the agreement to continue driving women's sport and everything that it represents.
Vueling will be dedicating one of its planes to the team with an image of a selection of squad members appearing on the outside of one of its Airbus A320s, which will operate Vueling's routes throughout Europe and accompany the players on their travels.
First European women's team to have their own plane
FC Barcelona thus becomes the first European women's football team to have its image appear on a regular airliner. The new design will be presented in an event next Thursday, April 25 to be attended by Aitana Bonmatí, Fridolina Rölfo, Ingrid Engen, Patri Guijarro and Caroline Graham-Hansen. And it will be the same plane that, a day later, will take the team to London to play the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Chelsea.
The new alliance between Barça Femení and Vueling is built on three key pillars: their origin in Barcelona and desire to project their image to the world; their commitment to society through actions that have a positive impact on its environment; and the desire to promote the role of women in our society.
The partnership also reaffirms the two parties' mutual commitment to the promotion of female talent, with the union of a leading, winning team, in constant evolution, that in the last few years has become a worldwide benchmark, not only in sport, but also in terms of values, breaking down prejudices and fostering female empowerment. Vueling shares that firm commitment to diversity and inclusion, as demonstrated by the 71.4% presence of women on its managerial board and the 50.2% female presence among its more than 4,600 employees.
Finally, just as Barça seeks to better the world through football, Vueling also has social action in its DNA and seeks to have a positive impact on the communities and regions where it operates. The airline collaborates with different entities to facilitate the transport of specialists to support families living with different diseases, to help vulnerable communities, to transport organs for transplants and also cash and resources in humanitarian emergency situations.
This agreement is part of Vueling's 20th anniversary, which it is delighted to commemorate by highlighting its roots in Barcelona, the city where it was founded in 2004 and where it currently has its main headquarters. At Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat airport, Vueling is also the airline of choice, since practically 1 out of every 2 passengers travelled with the company in 2023. In these 20 years of history, Vueling has established itself as a key agent to ensure the connectivity of Barcelona and Catalonia with the world, as it not only offers direct travel to different cities in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, but also connects with other long-haul companies whose departures or final destinations are in Catalonia.
