FC Barcelona games on February 29
February 29 is a date that only comes around once every four years, so it's not surprising that Barça games on this date have been a rare thing. In fact, it's only happened four times in the history of the club, so let's take a peek back into the past to see what happened.
Goalfest against Sevilla
The first was on 29 February 1948, when Barça thumped six goals past their Andalusian guests at the old Les Corts stadium, with such legends on the park as César, Basora, Gonzalvo II and Gonzalvo III. César scored a hat-trick that day, Florencio got two and Gonzalvo III claimed the other to the delight of coach Enrique Fernández.
Loss to Racing and win over Oviedo
The next two cases were in 1976 and 1992, both in the north of Spain. Racing Santander won the first of those games 2-1 against a side featuring the likes of Cruyff and Rexach. Miquel Mir's 89th minute goal was mere consolation after Zuviria and Aítor Aguirre had scored for the home side.
In 1992, the Dream Team went to the Carlos Tartiere and won 2-0 thanks to goals from Stoichkov and Laudrup.
Win at Riazor
It's already 20 years since the last game on February 29. Frank Rijkaard was the manager in a 3-2 win at 'Super Depor', all thanks to a brace from Ronaldinho and a single goal by Saviola.
