Revolutionary fan experience at future Spotify Camp Nou presented at Mobile World Congress

Sergi Ricart, director of the FC Barcelona Commercial Area, explains the design process that went into a ground-breaking venue that will be welcoming visitors 365 days a year

Espai Barça has been showcased at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), the most important technological congress in the world, which is being held from this Monday until tomorrow Thursday at the Fira de Barcelona. As part of the Sports and Entertainment Summit in the Connected Industries space, Sergi Ricart, director of FC Barcelona's Commercial Area, yesterday presented the revolutionary experience that will be available at the future Spotify Camp Nou, where fans will experience sport in a brand new way, turning the club into a technological benchmark thanks to an innovative project that goes far beyond the redevelopment of the stadium.

In his presentation, Ricart detailed some of the cornerstones that will make the future project such a revolutionary destination for sports and entertainment, and all right in the heart of a global city. Espai Barça is much more than a stadium, it is one of the essential factors that will keep FC Barcelona at the forefront of world sport, a key aspect of its economic recovery and future viability. In order to generate the new income that is such an essential part of the funding plan proposed for the project, Ricart described the concept of hospitality that is being applied to the future Spotify Camp Nou and how it will revolutionise the fan experience.

He showed the MWC audience some of the renderings of the future stadium, as well as the new VIP areas, while also speaking in depth about the importance of this new hospitality and emphasising that the club is working to achieve the highest standards in the market. He also talked listeners through the whole process of designing the facilities that will host visitors 365 days a year, offering a unique range of activities not only on match days, but also on days when there are no sporting events taking place.

The club is building the largest and most innovative sports complex in the centre of a European city, all part of its intention to set new standards in terms of technologies and sustainability. FC Barcelona is committed to turning Espai Barça into an international innovation hub, revolutionising the technological landscape and serving as a meeting point for the best companies in the sector.

The importance of technology in the stadium experience

After his presentation, Ricart then joined a panel chaired by Brian Gorman, Fintech Lead at GSMA, which also featured Debika Bhattacharya, Chief Product Officer of Verizon Business, and Harri Holma, Fellow and Senior Advisor of Nokia Technology Office. Each of them described some of their own experiences in the sports industry and how technology has impacted the experience of fans in stadiums. Recart himself highlighted the importance of the market studies and analyses that were carried out when designing the future Spotify Camp Nou experience, as well as the importance of the legacy that the Espai Barça project means for the club.
