Aitana and Salma nominated for Laureus Awards

The Barça players are in the running for the Sportswoman of the Year and Breakthrough prizes, with the Spanish women's football team also named as a candidate

Aitana Bonmatí and Salma Paralluelo have both been named among the nominees for the Laureus Awards this year.

The former is among the candidates for Sportswoman of the Year, where she'll be up against athletes Shericka Jackson, Faith Kipyegon and Sha'Carri Richardson, alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin and tennis' Iga Swiatek. And the latter is one of the potential winners of the Breakthrough of the Year prize, where she's competing with fellow footballers Jude Bellingham and Linda Caicedo, tennis player Coco Gauff, swimmer Qin Haiyang and athlete Josh Kerr.

The 25th Gala is being held this year in Madrid on April 22.

Spanish football team also nominated

The Spanish women's football team, winners of the World Cup with a massive contingent of Barça players in its number, has been shortlisted for the Team of the Year award. The other candidates in that category are the European Ryder Cup golfers, the German men's basketball team, Manchester City, Oracle Red Bull Racing of Formula 1 and the South African rugby union team.
