Frenkie de Jong says team 'excited' to be back in knock out stages
FC Barcelona restart their 2023/24 Champions League campaign on Wednesday with the first leg of their last 16 tie against Napoli in the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Ahead of the game in Naples both midfielder Frenkie de Jong and coach Xavi Hernández appeared before the press.
The Dutch midfielder admitted that "we return to the last 16 of the Champions League after an absence of two years and we are going into it with a lot of desire and a lot of excitement."
De Jong continued: "Napoli are a great team despite the fact that things have been difficult for them this season in Serie A. I am sure they will make it tough for us."
Frenkie de Jong touched on the subject of a possible contract extension, saying he was "very happy at Barça, it's my dream club." He concluded by adding: "I am really at home with my team mates, the staff and everyone who is part of the day to day at the Club and I hope to keep playing here for many years to come."
