RIP Joan Casals, the Barça Grandfather
Since 1984 he was the real-life incarnation of the character created by illustrator Valentí Castanys and was one of the most fondly beloved members of the supporters community
Joan Casals has passed away at the age of 90. Known to the Culer community as the Avi del Barça (Barça Grandfather), Casals has been one of the most beloved members of the supporters community in recent decades. It was way back in 1984 when he became the real-life incarnation of the cartoon character created by illustrator Valentí Castanys, with his iconic white beard and blaugrana jersey, making him a hugely popular figure at every game he attended.
In 2007, Joan Casals was recognised as an official representative of the club at Penya meetings.
El FC Barcelona vol mostrar el seu condol per la mort de Joan Casals, conegut com l'Avi del Barça.
