Gündoğan is king of assists
Following his assist in the game against Granada for Robert Lewandowski's goal, Ilkay Gündoğan now has 10 to his name this season. Six of those have come in La Liga and his ninth in all competitions in the recent win over Alavés, also for his Polish team mate, saw the German midfielder saw him move past his previous best of eight in a season from the 2018/19 campaign.
Most assists for Barça in the league
Gündoğan has provided six in the domestic league for Barça this season, just one behind league leaders Savio (Girona) and Toni Kroos (Real Madrid). However, in all competitions Gündoğan's total of 10 surpasses the figures of both his La Liga rivals.
In Europe's top five leagues - France, Spain, Italy, England and the Netherlands - the German midfielder is ranked seventh overall just two behind leaders Leroy Sané of Bayern Munich and Bukayo Saka of Arsenal. The rate that Gündoğan is racking up assists, he still has plenty of time this season to make his move to the top of that list.
Lewandowski, his great ally
When you have quality team mates, everything is much easier. Of Gündoğan's 10 assists in all competitions this season, three have been for Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, including two from the last two matches against Alavés and Granada. In fact, all three have come in 2024 with the other assist from the German to the Pole coming in the semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup against Osasuna.
Pedri (2), Ferran Torres, Marc Guiu, Joules Kounde and João Félix are the other players who have benefitted from Gündoğan's talent for creating goalscoring opportunities.
