15 years since Barça's 5,000th goal in LaLiga, scored by Leo Messi

Leo Messi scores a cracking goal on 1 February 2009 at the El Sardinero stadium in Santander to make it 5,000 for the blaugranes in LaLiga

The game was a bit of a stalemate, it was the 80th minute, and Pep Guardiola's first Barça side from the 2008/09 season that would go on to win the triple four months later were drawing 1-1 against Racing Santander. The Cantabrians had taken the lead through big striker Nikola Zigic after 56 minutes, before substitute Leo Messi equalised not long after coming in after 61 minutes.

With 10 minutes to go and with a real risk of the eight game winning run in LaLiga coming to an end, who else but Leo Messi came to the fore, as he always did, completing the comeback, for three more points, and what's more to score Barça's 5000th goal in LaLiga. With a right footed volley across the goal, the Argentinian wrote his name into the list of players who scored for Barça at the thousand goal milestones.

Since that day in Santander, precisely 15 years ago, the blaugranes have now scored 6,442 in LaLiga after Vitor Roque scored on Wednesday against Osasuna. Not content with scoring the 5000th goal, Messi went on to score the 6,000th nine years later, to figure twice on a select list featuring Marco Aurellio (goal 1,000), Zaballa (goal 2,000), Quini (goal 3,000) and Guillermo Amor (goal 4,000). Now with over 500 goals left to reach 7,000, it's not an easy task to think who might score it, so we'll leave that to the imagination for the moment!
