FC Barcelona first club in the world to reach six million followers on Threads
FC Barcelona continues to show that it is closely following every new move in the digital real to bring its fans from all over the world closer to the Club’s day to day activities and those of its athletes. The latest platform to appear, Threads, demonstrates once again the blaugranes role as pioneers in the field.
Barça arrived on Threads, a platform linked to Instagram, on 14 December, the day the application was launched in Europe. Since then, the Club’s presence has grown exponentially, moving past six million followers in little over a month. To put the figure into context, FC Barcelona is the first sports club to reach that number, above Manchester City, PSG and Manchester United, who are all yet to reach five million.
In fact, amongst football accounts, only that of the Champions League has more followers with eight million. Nevertheless, it must be remembered that this account has been on the platform since July of last year since its launch in the USA. Another example is that of the NBA which has 6.3 million followers but again has been on the platform since last July, many months more than the Barça account. The Champions League, the NBA and FC Barcelona are the only sports accounts to have passed the six million followers mark.
Figures that reflect the Club’s commitment to creating entertaining digital content and that since the creation of the Barça Identity department strengthen Barça’s DNA on its digital channels with the aim of bringing the players closer to the fans, capture new audiences and position its sportsmen and women as inspirational figures beyond sport for the new generation.
