Pau Cubarsí makes first team debut
Salamanca will always be special for Pau Cubarsí. Four days before his 17th birthday on January 22, he played his first game for the FC Barcelona senior team in the 3-1 win away to Unionistas in the Copa del Rey. This came just a month after already playing for the team, albeit in an unofficial game, the friendly in Dallas with Club Amèrica.
Big debut
Cubarsí came on at half-time as a replacement for Christensen, and in his 45 minutes on pitch looked calm enough with the ball at his feet, showed awareness of playmaking situations and was solid in defence when called upon. He also picked up a yellow card and was on the field for the two goals that secured passage into the quarter finals of the competition.
Culer since 2018
Born in 2007 in Estanyol (Girona), Cubarsí arrived at the club from Girona FC lin July 2018. This season he has been playing for Barça Atlètic, although he is officially part of the U19 squad. He has played nine games for the reserves, and this was his ninth call-up for first team duty, but the first in which he actually got playing time. He was also part of the Spain squad at the recent U17 World Cup in Indonesia, and played two games in the group stage of the UEFA Youth League.
Saying his hero is Carles Puyol, he has captained almost every team he has played for, and is renowned for his ability to get the ball forward out of defence and for being an extremely awkward defender for opposing forwards to deal with.
