Laporta visits team and calls for unity

FC Barcelona president has motivating message for the players to raise their spirits after defeat in the Spanish Super Cup

The president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, visited the first team on Wednesday morning with a message of optimism and unity for them and their staff following Sunday's defeat in the Spanish Super Cup Final. Joined by members of his board, the president was looking to raise spirits for the forthcoming series of important games, beginning this Thursday with a cup match in Salamanca.

Laporta stressed the quality and talent in the squad, saying that they have it in them to turn this situation around, and reminded them, as did Xavi Hernández in his press conference, that the three most important trophies are all still there for the taking; La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League. As the Barça anthem goes, united we are stronger ("Tots units fem força"), and the biggest goals of the season can still be achieved.

Xavi Hernández made a point of thanking Laporta for his visit, saying "he is the most positive person of all. He is keen and enthusiastic. His has conveyed to us a message of hope and of his faith in the players and staff."
