Asisat Oshoala, Women's African Player of the Year 2023
Barça Women players continue their trend of picking up individual awards this year. The latest is Asisat Oshoala who has been recognised as Women's African Player of the Year for 2023 by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in a gala in Marrakech, Morocco on Monday.
The blaugrana striker takes the award ahead of Thembi Kgatlana (Racing Louisville of the NWSL) and Barbra Banda (Shanghai Shengli Football Club form the Chinese Superleague).

Oshoala picked up the award in person at the gala in Morocco and gave a short acceptance speech in which she highlighted the importance of teamwork in sport and elsewhere in African society. "I want to thank everyone who has been there on my journey. Football is a team sport and we have to work hard on and off the field, In the World Cup Africa made history and we have to keep working together to improve and do great things," said the Barça Women striker.

Six time winner
Asisat Oshoala is a previous winner of the award in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2022. With her sixth player of the year award she continues to set a record as the most prolific winner and in 2021 Oshoala was also named African Women's Player of the Decade.
This year the Nigerian striker has proved herself worthy of the prize, winning the league title, the Champions League and the Spanish Super Cup with Barça Women, scoring 26 goals and providing six assists in the process.
