Barça 4-0 Atlético Madrid (26 May, 1929)

The International Exposition in 1929 in Barcelona led to the construction of the Estadi Olímpic at Montjuïc. The first ever meeting in the stadium between the two clubs took place that very year with the aim of promoting the new venue.

The league game was part of the 1928/29 campaign and Barça came out comfortable winners against Atlético, goals from Sastre, Walter and two from Samitier giving the home side a 4-0 victory.

Barça 5-2 Atlético Madrid (25 August, 1996)

The second game between the two clubs at Montjuïc came some 67 years after the first. On 25 August 1996 the two sides met in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup at the Estadi Olímpic due to a problem with the pitch at Spotify Camp Nou. The season before under coach Radomir Antic, Atlético had completed a league and cup double and faced Barça in the Super Cup as the blaugranes had been runners-up in the Copa del Rey.

The match was the first official game in charge for new Barça coach Sir Bobby Robson and for recently arrived striker Ronaldo Nazário. The Brazilian scored twice to help the blaugranes to a 5-2 win in the Estadi Olímpic and despite a 3-1 defeat in the second leg in Madrid, Barça claimed their first trophy of the 1996/97 season. Curiously enough, the current Atlético coach Diego Simeone was in the starting XI for los colchoneros that day in August 1996.
