Several FC Barcelona nominations for the Globe Soccer Awards 2023

The blaugranes have 22 candidates in various categories for the prizes

There is a large FC Barcelona presence amongst the candidates for the 2023 Globe Soccer Awards. The lists of potential winners in each category were released on Tuesday with the winners to be announced in a gala ceremony in Dubai on 19 January. For the 14th edition of the Awards, Barça have no less than 22 candidates nominated for a prize. 

Men's and women's teams amongst candidates for Best Club 

2023 was a prolific year for the FC Barcelona women's football team so it comes as no surprise that Jonatan Giráldez's team are amongst the names to be considered for Best Women's Team of the Year. Giráldez himself is also a candidate for the Best Coach of the Year award after a season in which Barça Women claimed the league title, the Champions League and the Spanish Super Cup, as well as scooping the best women's team award at the recent Ballon d'Or gala in Paris. 

The Barça men's team are also nominated in the category of Best Men's Team of the Year. In 2022/23, Xavi Hernández's team set various defensive records on their way to the league title and the Spanish Super Cup. The blaugranes' coach is a candidate for the Best Coach of the Year award and Marc ter Stegen is also in line with a chance of a prize in the Best Goalkeeper of the Year category. 

Six culers up for Best Women's Player of the Year 

As well as being well represented in the team categories, Barça also have a great chance to pick up individual awards at the 2023 Globe Soccer Awards. In the category of Best Women's Player no less than six blaugranes have been included on the list of potential winners. Aitana Bonmatí, recent Ballon d'Or winner, as well as Patri Guijarro, Mapi León, Salma Paralluelo, Asisat Oshoala and Fridolina Rolfö all have a chance to follow in the footsteps of team mate Alexia Putellas who claimed the prize in 2022.

Two blaugranes amongst the candidates for Best Men's Player

In with a shout of the men's individual award for best player is La Liga top scorer last season Robert Lewandowski and midfielder Ilkay Gündoğan. Furthermore, the Polish striker is also on the list of names for the Fan's Favourite Player category award whilst the German international has another shot by being a candidate for Best Midfielder of the Year also alongside his team mate Pedri.

The midfielder from the Canary Islands is also a potential winner of the Emerging Player Award with Gavi, Lamine Yamal and Alejandro Balde also nominated in the same category. 

Finally, off the field, Joan Laporta is nominated for the Best President award and Mateu Alemany amongst the candidates for Best Sporting Director. In total 22 candidates for FC Barcelona at the Globe Soccer Awards 2022.
