Joan Laporta: 'It's important we stick together'
During a visit to see the redevelopment work at the Spotify Camp Nou, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta took some time to say a few words about both Xavi Hernández and the team, and the building work on the new stadium.
“We are in the running. We are well placed in the Champions League and in LaLiga”, he explained. Barça's president expressed his full support for Xavi, stating “I want to be totally clear, just like Deco and my board of directors were, we are fully onside with our coach, and we are proud to have him as coach for his professional and human quality. We are a close-knit group. It's important we stick together at the moment”.
When it comes to the current situation of the men's first team, Joan Laporta added that “We are in a period when the injured players are returning and Xavi will have everyone available. The most important thing is how it ends, and we are working to be strong for the final push”.
Joan Laporta also spoke about the building work on Spotify Camp Nou. “Seeing the original structure is very moving. There was nostalgia when we first came, but now you can start to imagine what it will look like new. The works are on schedule. We've spoken with everyone involved and we are happy. If all goes to plan, we will be back playing towards the end of 2024. We hope everyone will feel at home again in one of the world's benchmark stadiums. We have shown courage with this project”, he explained.
