João Cancelo, goalscoring all-rounder
João Cancelo didn't take long to win over the fans. The right back has only appeared in four games so far, and just two in the starting line-up. Yet as well as his brilliant contributions to the defence he has also claimed two goals and an assist.
But despite his top class display against Celta, he still claims "you haven't seen the best of me yet." If that means this is just the beginning of even better things to come, then we have a lot to get excited about.
Versatile wing back
The Portuguese loanee's natural position is at right back but he is so fit and quick that he can easily wander up the wing to support and even join the attack when called upon.
And he's clearly very good at it. He is the first defender since 2013 to score two goals in his first four games in the blaugrana jersey.
And in Europe's top five leagues, Robin Gosens of Union Berlín, who has scored three goals, is the only defender with a better record so far this season. David López of Girona and Sergio Akieme of Almería have, like Cancelo, both been on target twice.
Comeback hero
And this ability came to the rescue of a Barça in dire trouble on Saturday. His team two goals down, and himself having given away two key balls, Cancelo then came to light in the final minutes with an assist to level the game and a goal to win it.
Matching the eight recoveries of Kounde and the four crosses by Gündogan, plus 4 tackles won and two completed dribbles, the same as Torres, his was an outstanding statistical display. He ended the game with 81 completed passes and 137 interventions, only topped by Kounde (136 and 150).
But beyond the figures, what really stood out from his performance against Celta was his refusal to surrender, his willingness not to let mistakes tamper his concentration and his tireless crusade to get his team back into the game. There is little doubt that we are talking about someone whose name we are going to be hearing a lot more over the season that's just started.
