Five leagues out of six... Just futsal to go
After FC Barcelona swept the Spanish basketball championship final series 3-0 against Real Madrid, the club has now won five of the six national pro sports leagues in which it competes.
The men's and women's football teams as well as the handball and roller teams had already celebrated their national league titles, and a historic first ever full house of six is now very much on the cards. The only title required to complete the set is the futsal championship, and with Barça leading the final series against Jaen 2-0, they have three chances to win the best-of-five series and bring yet another trophy home.
The basketball team won the Spanish league for the 20th time on Tuesday night at the Wizink Center. After two very close fought contests in games one and two at the palau, the first game on the road saw the Catalans lead more or less from start to finish and end up comfortable victors.
Matched the best ever
This would be the first time FC Barcelona have ever won all six titles since the women's football and futsal sections turned professional. The best until now has been five titles in 2011/12 and 2020/21. On both those occasions the men's football team was the one that missed out, but not this time! So it's now down to the futsal team to deliver the goods and do something unprecedented in the history of professional sport in Spain.
