Iñaki Peña extends contract to 2026

Goalkeeper's buyout clause set at 400 million euros

FC Barcelona and Iñaki Peña have reached an agreement to extend the goalkeeper's contract until 30 June 2026. The buyout clause has been set at 400 million euros.

The player signed his new contract on Tuesday morning in the offices at Spotify Camp Nou in the presence of president Joan Laporta.

From La Masia to Spotify Camp Nou

Iñaki Peña started out at his local club Alicante CF, but was just 10 years old when he was scouted by Villarreal, and two years later he came to La Masia in 2012 He rose up through the ranks, and in 2018/19 was promoted to Barça Atlètic, but alternated those duties with work with the senior team.

Still not having made his first team debut, in January 2022, Peña went on loan to Galatasaray for the remainder of the season, where he played six games in the Turkish league and two in the Europa League, both against Barça, keeping a clean sheet in the first leg at Spotify Camp Nou.

He returned to Barça at the end of the season and last January 3 was officially made part of the first team. In November, he had finally made his official debut in a Champions League fixture away to Viktoria Plzen.

He has also featured in two Copa del Rey games this season, against Intercity and Ceuta. Now 24 years old, he is still waiting to play his first game for Barça at Spotify Camp Nou (although curiously he has done so as a visiting Galatasaray player). If Barça can sew up the Liga title sooner rather than later, we may well get to see that happen this season.
