Leading the way in young talent
Barça are on the verge of being confirmed league champions, needing just win from the last five games.
They are 13 points clear of Atlético Madrid and 14 ahead of Real Madrid. And that is especially impressive considering that Xavi Hernández has always insisted that this is a team that is still being built.
Youngest in the top leagues
The first choice XI includes young stars like Pedri, Gavi, Araujo, Kounde and Balde, who are blending perfectly with more veterans names like Sergio, Lewandowski and Ter Stegen.
In fact, with an average age of 26 years and 105 days, the first choice team at Barça is younger that of any of the other teams that are topping any of the five biggest leagues in Europe.
Not until the sixth placed league according to the UEFA coefficient, the Dutch Eredivisie, do we find a leader with an even lower average age, namely Feyenoord, whose starting XI has an average age of 23 years and 360 days.
What this shows is that not only can FC Barcelona feel very pleased with a season that has already brought the Spanish Super Cup and in which La Liga has for all intents and purposes also been secured, but that this is a team with a future. And a very healthy future that looks too.
