All about FC Barcelona v Juventus on the 2023 US Tour

Barça kick off their preseason tour of the USA in 2023 with a game against Serie A side Juventus on 22 July with kick off at 7.30pm local time. The fixture will be the first of four scheduled for Xavi Hernández's team on American soil with games against Arsenal in Los Angeles, Real Madrid in Dallas and AC Milan in Las Vegas to follow. 

The venue 

The first friendly of Barça's trip to the US will come in the state of California, in the Levi's Stadium in San Francisco to be precise. The venue for the Juventus game was opened in 2014 and the ground has room for some 72,864 fans. 

The Levi's Stadium is where the NFL's San Francisco 49ers play their home games but it has also been the venue the 2016 Super Bowl, games in the Centenary Copa América, also in 2016 and the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2017. Furthermore, the stadium will one of those used for the next World Cup in 2026. 

The game will be Barça's fourth in San Francisco, and the third in the Levis Stadium in the area of Santa Clara. The blaugranes' first visit to San Francisco came in 2009 when Pep Guardiola's team played out a 1-1 draw against Mexican team Chivas at Candlestick Park. 

Their first visit to the Levis Stadium came in a 3-1 defeat against Manchester United in 2015 and three years later Barça were defeated once more, this time 1-0 at the hands of AC Milan. Against Juventus Xavi's team will have to chance to break their duck at the venue with a win against the Italians. 

Previous friendlies against Juventus

It will be the eight friendly meeting between Barça and Juventus. The most recent came in Dallas, USA last season when two goals from Dembélé helped the blaugranes share the honours in a 2-2 draw. 

Of the seven other meetings, five have come in the USA. The other two matches both came in Joan Gamper Trophy game at Spotify Camp Nou; a 2-2 draw in 2005 and a 3-0 win for Barça in 2021. 

The latter game marked a historic occasion as it was the first time ever that the women's team and the men's team had played the Gamper game on the same day against the same opponents, Juventus.
