BA Istanbul to auction three jerseys for the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria
The Barça Foundation has donated three jerseys signed by FC Barcelona first team players to the directors of Barça Academy Istanbul to help raise funds for the victims of the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria on February 6. The aim is to raise as much money as possible, so these three jerseys will be auctioned in May with a starting price of 1000 euro.
The auction for the three jerseys will begin on May 1 and anyone wanting to acquire one of these unique items will have up to May 17 to place their highest bid for them. The money raised will be allocated via the official channels used by the Turkish government for charity actions through the Turkish Football Federation (TFF). The country’s football community has a major ongoing donation campaign via the Omuz Omuza initiative for the victims of the earthquake.
The school directors were given the jerseys during the recent Barça Academy World Cup held at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. The donation was made by both FC Barcelona first vice president of the Sporting area, Rafael Yuste, and Barça Academy sporting director, Sergi Barjuan, to the Turkish academy director, Ümit Kadir Sahin, on the pitch at the Estadi Johan Cruyff just after the event was inaugurated.
Let’s not forget that the main 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit the border region between Turkey and Syria on February 6, causing tens of thousands of fatalities, and there were over 1000 aftershocks during the following month. Furthermore, a major winter storm hindered the rescue efforts, with snow falling on the ruins and causing the temperature to drop. Any survivors, and particularly those trapped under the rubble, were at significant risk of hypothermia precisely due to the low temperatures.
