Sant Jordi celebrated at Spotify Camp Nou

More than 80,000 spectators form the message on an event-packed day at the stadium

This wasn't any old Sunday at Spotify Camp Nou. Sant Jordi is a holiday in Catalonia, with roses for the woman, books for the men, and with the celebrations especially intense around the FC Barcelona stadium, with more than 80,000 forming a mosaic in the build-up to the game against Atlético Madrid.

Today's pre-match message read “Comparteix el català” (Share Catalan) with the colours of the national flag in an activity promoted in association which Òmnium, the movement that does so much to promote the use of Catalan, and in this case in association to sport.

The journalist and vice-president of Òmnium, Mònica Terribas, and athlete Núria Picas read out a manifesto on the use of Catalan in sport, and the promo video for the campaign was shown on the giant screen. It features a number of top sportspeople, including Alexia Putellas and Ansu Fati, FC Barcelona players, in a call for all clubs, athletes, coaches, families and fans to support the campaign. All around Spotify Camp Nou, five stands were set off for people to sign up for the campaign.

Music at Spotify Camp Nou

There was also half-time entertainment from the band The Tyets with the song 'Coti x Coti', which has popularised the traditional sardana dance among the younger generation. And in the build-up to the game (and also afterwards) there was also music courtesy of the group Figa Flawas and DJ Uri Mora.
