Parallel Ligas for FC Barcelona men and women
Both the FC Barcelona men's and women's teams are closing in on their respective league titles, and in remarkably similar fashion. Both of them have 72 points and both of them are exactly 13 points clear of the team currently ranked second, which in both cases is Real Madrid.
Same situation
It's really just a curious coincidence, because the women have a one hundred per cent record with just six games to go, while there are still ten games left for the men to play. But it does reflect the utter dominance of both teams in their respective competitions.
Top defences
When it comes to goals, the women's team are out on their own, with 101 scored in 24 games. The men have scored little over half that amount, 53, and have played four more games.
But defensively, matters are tighter. The women have only conceded five goals all season, while the mere nine that the men have leaked have them on course for all kinds of records
And while Marc-André ter Stegen has kept a staggering 21 clean sheets, there have been 19 for the trio of women goalkeepers, Sandra Paños, Gemma Font and Cata Coll.
The men have not conceded a single goal in six games, while the women have now gone for ten.
Another aspect where the teams are equatable is regarding the large number of players that the coaches have been using, including a major contingent of La Masia graduates. Xavi Hernández has fielded as many as 27 different players this term, and Jonatan Giráldez has picked 28.
Two teams with a lot in common, and both of which are on wonderful course to add another league championship to their collections.
