Trio of wins in the Clásico
Winning the Clásico is becoming something of a habit for Barça this season. The 2-1 win on Sunday in Spotify Camp Nou was their third in a row against Real Madrid, a streak that last happened back in 2021 with Pep Guardiola as coach.
The trio of wins was kicked off with a 3-1 in the final of the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia. The second win of the season in the famous fixture came at the beginning of this month with a 1-0 victory in the Santiago Bernabéu in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi final. This latest win in La Liga at Spotify Camp Nou thanks to Franck Kessie's late winner means Xavi's side now have a 12 points advantage over their eternal rivals in La Liga.
The three game winning streak equals the second best ever in the fixture after similar runs in 1976, 1983 and 2012. The record stands at five consecutive wins set between 2008 and 2012. With the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi final to come at Spotify Camp Nou on 5 April, Barça could take another step towards equalling that historic achievement.
Coming back from a goal down
The win in the Clásico was even more special as the blaugranes had to earn it coming from behind. After an unlucky own goal had put the visitors ahead, Sergi Roberto's equaliser on the stroke of half time was followed by Kessie's injury time winner in the second half.
This century this was Barça's fifth comeback win in the fixture but the first at Spotify Camp Nou.
Winning goal in added time
Franck Kessie's winner came with 91:02 on the clock, the second latest winner in the 21st century following Messi's winner after 91:48 in the Santiago Bernabéu in April 2017.
The game also saw Barça score for the first time in the final minute of each half in the fixture with Sergi Roberto scoring after 44 minutes and 26 seconds of the first half.
