100th Clásico victory for FC Barcelona
The first ever game between FC Barcelona and what was known as the time as Madrid Football Club was way back in 1902. A lot of football has been played between then and Sunday night when Sergi Roberto and Franck Kessie scored the goals that earned the Catalans a win that puts them into an almost unassailable lead at the top of the Liga table.
Century of wins
But that result was also the 100th for Barça against their eternal rival, only counting competitive fixtures. The breakdown is as follows:
La Liga: 74 wins
Copa: 17
Spanish Super Cup: 5
European Cup/Champions League: 2
League Cup: 2
64 of those wins have been at Barça's home stadiums, 31 were at Madrid's and five were at neutral venues.
Barça dominance in 21st century
The series is remarkably close. Right now, Real Madrid have 101 wins, just one more than Barça. And the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg next month gives Barça the chance to get back level.
Barça have made up a lot of lost ground since the turn of the century. In the 66 Clásicos played since the year 2000, Barça have won 26 and Madrid just 23. And this century, Barça have outscored Madrid 114 to 95.
