Champions wherever they go, together with CUPRA
The Barça Women first team players Alexia Putellas, Ana Maria Crnogorčević, Asisat Oshoala, Fridolina Rolfo, Lucy Bronze and Sandra Paños took part in a challenge that took them out of their comfort zone.
With the help of CUPRA, FC Barcelona Global Partner, the players from Jonatan Giráldez's squad exchanged the football for a padel racquet to take part in a coaching session led by Paula Josemaría and Ari Sánchez, professional padel players who are ranked second on the World Padel Tour and are global CUPRA padel ambassadors.
The event organised by the car company aims to bring together the best of women's padel and the best of women's football in a unique environment such as Sportify Camp Nou. Not for nothing is CUPRA well known for having revolutionised the world of padel on a global scale thanks to its sponsorship of the world circuit and its collaboration with the two women's padel players.
Padel and the “Trunk Challenge”
The session took place in a specially constructed court on the esplanade in front of the main stand at Spotify Camp Nou. Prior to the padel activity, the two professional players watched the Barça Women training session at the Ciutat Esportiva. Returning to Spotify Camp No with the help of some CUPRA Born cars, they found a padel court waiting for them rather different to the ones they are used to.
As well as practising their volleys and backhands, the footballers also put the padel players through their paces with the bigger ball. The day ended with smiles all round as the group took the "Trunk Challenge" which involves getting the ball first time into the boot of a CUPRA Born.
Afterwards, the sportswomen took part in a discussion in which they revealed their experiences of playing in a team and how unity makes them stronger. "If Ari plays as an individual and I do the same, our game goes nowhere," said Paula. In that sense Alexia Putellas added: "It's important to play together. I think that one of the best things about team sports is the support that you receive form your team mates; when you get injured or have a bad game, they help, even if it is nothing out of the ordinary."
The team from CUPRA where there to record the day's events for content which can be enjoyed on the social media platforms of the Club Automotive Partner and those of the women's football team.
