Lewandowski returns to Munich
FC Barcelona are away to Bayern Munich on Tuesday and it's an especially important day for Robert Lewandowski, who is returning to club where he spent eight seasons.
In 375 competitive appearances, the Polish striker broke practically all the major goalscoring records in Germany, and will always be regarded as one of the greatest players ever to play for the Bavarian giants.
Amazing legacy
Lewandowski joined Bayern in 2014 as a free agent from Borussia Dortmund. In eight seasons, he won the Bundesliga at every attempt and netted 344 goals along the way, finishing as top scorer in all but two of those campaigns.
His trophy haul also included three German cups, the Champions League and the Club World Cup, and on an individual level he was a double winner of the FIFA The Best (2020, 2021) and was also named UEFA Player of the Year (2020).
Goals in his blood
There were some doubts as to whether Lewandowski would be able to replicate such feats in La Liga. But the doubters have been proved very, very wrong. He has scored six goals in his first five games, the best start this century for any player at a new club. Not forgetting that he also scored a hat-trick in his first Champions League outing against Viktoria Plzen. This guy makes goalscoring look easy.
But Tuesday is going to be a very different experience for him. And it's going to be a strange one for the Bayern fans too, for the man they idolised for so many years is now going to be the man trying to score goals against them. And judging by his recent form, there's a very strong chance of him doing exactly that!
