Presentation of FC Barcelona women's team 2022/23
There was a fantastic atmosphere in front of a packed Estadi Johan Cruyff for the presentation of the women's team for the new season in the build-up to the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Montpellier.
There was huge ovation for coach Jonatan Giráldez and his team, with the five captains, Putellas, Torrejón, Paños, Guijarro and Paredes, the last to come out onto the pitch.
New signings
There was special interest in welcoming the new additions to the squad, namely Lucy Bronze, Geyse Ferreira and Nuria Rábano. The other new inclusion, Salma Paralluelo, is away with the Spanish U20 World Cup squad so could not attend. The newcomers' jersey numbers were also announced: Bronze will wear 15, Paralluelo has 17, Geyse takes 18 and Rábano gets the number 22.
There are also a few changes from last season. Laia Codina will now be wearing number 3, Andrea Falcón switches to 21, Emma Ramirez to 25, Jana to 5, Crnogorcevic to 7 and Graham is now the number 10.
Big promises from Alèxia
Coach Jonatan Giráldez took the microphone and said he hopes “for a repeat of the support that you gave us last season. We had historic moments like the game at Camp Nou, but all that is now in the past ... We now have to think about new challenges. We have goals that we are sure that, with your support and our hard work, we will achieve. We want to bring you joy and titles.”
Captain Alexia Putellas added that “I will start by welcoming the new players, who will help us to achieve our goals. The young players need to enjoy defending the colours with pride because you are the ones who will shortly be fighting to win titles and finals ... The games at Camp Nou were historic moments, but they are now in the past. We want to repeat the titles we won last year and go back to the Champions League final, but this time to win it. We owe that to you."
