A player who came up through the youth system, in 1972 he was loaned out to Calella where he soon showed his quality. The then Barça coach Rinus Michels included Olmo in preseason in 1973 but the defender continued with the B team, Barça Atlètic, until 1976 when he became a first team member, immediately securing a place in the starting XI and becoming an international.
The Barça fans remember the potent centre back partnership Olmo formed with Migueli. Unfortunately, in subsequent seasons his form wanted and he retired at the young age of 30.
