Sergio: 'World class players have arrived'

The FC Barcelona captain says the competition among players is good for the team

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida — Sergio Busquets is getting ready for another season as the captain of FC Barcelona. His words are derived from experience and, when he says that Barça's signings can give the team a boost in quality, people listen. “A very big effort is being made by the Club. World-class players have arrived, especially on the attacking side”, he said, referring to Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski.

Busquets believes that a deeper squad will improve the team's performance. “It is important for us to have at least two players at each position. It's good for the team to have competition. I try to do my job as well as possible”, he said at Monday's press conference ahead of Barça's match against Inter Miami, which will take place this Tuesday in Fort Lauderdale.

When asked about the MLS, Busquets acknowledged following the league since David Villa played here. “I like the MLS. Inter Miami didn't start the season well but found itself and is now in the middle of the table. Now they have signed Pozuelo and I think that offensively he can give them a lot. It is a team that likes to have the ball”, he stated.

Christensen's adaptation

In the pre-game press conference, Busquets was accompanied by Andreas Christensen, one of the team's new faces, and who could make his debut on Tuesday in Miami. For the Dane, this first week of training "has been very positive."

"I have learned many new things," he said, "and the next step is to adapt to the squad's teamwork dynamics."
