Araujo believes Barça can compete for trophies

The Uruguayan defender says from Miami that the squad is excited about the coming season

Ronald Araujo is already a key member of the FC Barcelona squad. The centre back who can also play at right back explained from Miami, where Barça are on their preseason tour of the US, that the club is putting together a highly competitive squad. "We have a a team to fight for, and win, trophies. We are working really hard and excited about the new season," said the defender following the team's first training session on US soil.

On the Club's new signings who also trained with the squad in Florida, Christensen, Kessie and Raphinha, the Uruguayan appeared motivated by their arrival. "I am really happy about the players who have come in, they will important for the team. It's vital to sign good players," added Araujo. 

Similarly, the defender commented on the impending arrival of striker Robert Lewandowski, with whom FC Barcelona have an agreement in principal: "If he comes then that will be a happy moment. We all know the quality he has." 

Competition at centre back

Araujo also commented on the possible competition at centre back in the squad. The arrival of Andreas Christensen is good news according to the Uruguayan, who also reminded everyone that "Piqué is the captain and reference point." On rumours surrounding Sevilla's French centre back Jules Koundé, Araujo said "he is a great player and we want the best to be playing at Barça."
