Pedri, FC Barcelona MVP for 2021/22
Members of the CULERS community from around the world have picked Pedri as their player of the season for 2021/22 in an online vote that has been open since last Friday. Pedri (6,721 votes) finished slightly above second placed Ronald Araujo (5,941), with Ter Stegen coming third, Gavi fourth and Ousmane Dembélé fifth. Some 22,000 fans cast their votes in the .cat, .es, .com and .fr domains.
Pedri shines through injuries
Pedri was the fan favourite despite missing a large chunk of the season through injury. Indeed, his return had a lot to do with the 15-match unbeaten streak in the league, including the famous 4-0 win at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Maybe it is no coincidence that Europa League elimination to Eintracht Frankfurt came precisely on the day that Pedri got injured again and sat out the rest of the season.
With Pedri on the pitch, Barça won 83.3% of their 12 games, but in the 26 games where the Canary Islander was missing, they only won 42.3%. Figures that speak for themselves?
Season stats
Pedri ended 2021/22 having made 22 competitive appearances, 19 as a starter. He scored five goals and gave one assist, and aside from a brilliant display at the Bernabéu, he was also particularly outstanding in the games away to Galatasaray and at home to Sevilla, scoring great goals in both. The one against Sevilla was actually picked as the best goal of La Liga 2021/22.
