Memphis, one goal from history for Holland

Barça striker now has 39 goals for his country and one more will tie him with Patrick Kluivert in third place in the all-time ranking

Memphis is just one goal away from making history for Holland. The Barça striker has already scored 39 times for his country and another one would tie him with former Barça striker Patrick Kluivert as the third highest goalscorer of all-time for the Netherlands. He gets his first chance to do so on Tuesday against Germany in an 8.45pm CEST start.

Up with the legends

Memphis converted a penalty in a friendly with Denmark the other day, his tenth conversion for his country, and has left in his wake such giants of the Dutch games as Cruyff (33), Van Nistelrooy (35) and Bergkamp (37).

Further challenges

Memphis has plenty of football left in his legs, and there is no reason not to believe he can’t go even higher. Next in his sights will be Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (42 goals) and 12 more goals would surpass Robin van Persie (50) to make him the highest goalscorer of all time for Holland.

He’s certainly banging the international goals in of late. In 2021 he set the Dutch record for a calendar year, 15 goals.
