FC Barcelona to play Eintracht Frankfurt in Europa League quarter final
FC Barcelona's next Europa League challenge will be against Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter finals.
At Friday's draw in Nyon, the Catalans learned that they will be playing the first leg at Deutsche Bank Park on April 7, kick off 9pm CEST and the second leg at Camp Nou seven days later on April 14, once again kick off at 9pm CEST.
This will be Barça's first ever meeting with the club that won this trophy in 1980 and is currently ninth in the German Bundesliga. Previously they have only met in a couple of friendlies. Barça won 1-0 at Camp Nou in 1973, and then 2-0 three years later in 1976 when Eintracht were guests at the Gamper Trophy.
Eintracht reached this round after topping a group that also included Olympiacos, Fenerbahçe and Antwerp, and then defeating Real Betis 3-2 on aggregate in the round of 16.
Barça have also learned that should they defeat Eintracht, in the semi-final they will be meeting the winners of West Ham United versus Olympique Lyonnais. The second leg of that encounter would also be at Camp Nou.
The full draw for the Europa League quarter finals is as follows:
RB Leipzig v Atalanta
Eintracht Frankfurt v FC Barcelona
West Ham v Olympique Lyonnais
Braga v Rangers
Barça qualified for the last eight on Thursday night thanks to a 2-1 win at Galatasaray.
