Deportivo Liceo 3–1 FC Barcelona: First OK Liga defeat

A run of 45 league games without defeat comes to an end in Galicia

The perfect start is over. Barça’s 3-1 defeat on Saturday at Deportivo Liceo was their first of the current OK Liga. It was the first time they had lost in 45 games but they stay top of the league table.

With blue cards, power plays and missed penalties, there was a bit of everything early on, in which Riazor also showed remarkable fair play with an ovation for Egurrola, who has just announced that this season will be his last.

But despite all the action there was no score until after the interval, when Dava Torres flicked Liceo ahead. Great goalkeeping prevented scoring at both ends until the home side extended their lead through César Carballeira and when Marc Grau made it 3-0 off a rebound, Barça’s fate was sealed.

Bargalló’s late goal was mere consolation, but Barça will be back at Riazor for the Golden Cup in April. Before that, there’s Alcobendas on March 12 at 6.00pm CET back in the Palau Blaugrana.
