Barça Femení 1- 0 Real Madrid: Into the Spanish Super Cup final!
A win in added time. Barça Femení are through to the Spanish Supercup final on Sunday after the Clásico win against Real Madrid (1-0). Barça dominated but came up against a resolute Real Madrid side and needed a goal from Alexia in stoppage time to earn the win, watched by FC Barcelona vice-president Elena Fort and director Xavier Puig at Las Rozas.
Even start before Barça took control
The game began more like a basketball match with action at either end, but it soon settled down with Barça taking control. Hermoso was dropping deep and passing it out wide for crosses that Rolfö and Martens failed to capitalise on. Real Madrid were retreating and Barça Femení began to probe through the centre, having complete domination of the ball. The rare moments Real Madrid managed to counter found Barça's defence well-positioned, with Jana defending particularly on the front foot.
The industrious Patri robbed possession deep in the opposition half in the 39th minute, forcing a save by the increasingly overworked Misa in the Real Madrid goal. A first-half played mostly between the halfway line and the box in Madrid's half. Despite Barça creating 6 clear opportunities, the score remained level at the break.
Second half push
Barça came out with renewed vigour after the break and immediately saw Hermoso flash a shot past the post in the 46th minute. Desperate defending by Real Madrid saw chances for Leila and Graham, before Rolfö shot wide. This only seemed to embolden Real Madrid, however, with Atenea having their first shot on goal after 58 minutes, followed by Zornoza hitting the post.
Jonatan Giráldez decided to make an attacking change on the 63rd minute, bringing on Oshoala for Leila. It seemed to almost pay dividends straight away as Misa made a double save. She went on to make many more, including a header from Paredes from yet another Barça corner, almost numbering double figures at this point.
Skipper scores the decider
After creating well over ten clear chances, the game went into time added on by the referee, and who else but the world's best female player to break the deadlock. Hermoso was fed down the right, Oshoala had a shot that hit the post and Alexia smashed in what would prove to be the winner.
There was still time for Real Madrid to push for an equaliser that never came and Barça Femení will play the winner of Thursday's Levante-Athletic Madrid game in the Spanish Super Cup final.
