Young focus
Born on 29 February 2000 in Foios (Valencia), Ferran Torres made first contact with the ball at an early age. He started out with futsal at the EPLA school and then attracted the attention of the Valencia CF academy. He was only seven years when he wore the shirt for the first time.
From there his rise was meteoric. In what seems like a flick of an eye he had advanced from all the way to the Valencia first team and made his Liga debut on 16 December 2017 against Eibar, in doing so becoming the first player born this century to appear in the competition. But he had already made his official debut a few days earlier on November 30 in a Copa del Rey game against Zaragoza.
Ferran Torres soon adapted to life in the footballing elite, and played a bigger and bigger role in the team with every season. In the second half of the 2017/18 season, and then full years in 2018/19 and 2019/20, he made 97 appearances and scored nine goals.
His greatest success at Valencia was the 2018/19 Copa del Rey, when the team beat Barça in the final in which his team won its first major trophy since 2008.
From Valencia to Manchester City
His fine season attracted the attention of Manchester City and Pep Guardiola. After a whole life at Valencia, Ferran moved to the Premier League, and also from winger to centre forward. It was in England that he became famed as a goalscorer, with 11 goals in 30 games in his first season, 2020/21, in which the Sky Blues won the league and the League Cup.
He began his second season with the Citizens, 2021/22, with four appearances and two goals.
Playing for Spain
His first major achievement as an international was victory in the U17 European Championship. It wouldn’t be long before he was getting his first full international call-up, and he is now very much one of Luis Enrique’s strongest weapons in attack.
Goals and attacking quality
He brings yet more youth and goalscoring ability to the blaugrana attack. He is a hugely versatile player who can play in any position in the forward line, on the left, right or in the centre. In each of these positions, he is a player with plenty of speed, verticality, quality and intelligence.
One of the most important of his many virtues is his shooting accuracy. He is a master at losing his marker, finding the right position in the area, having an eye for spotting space and very quick to turn chances into shots. Hard work has honed his attacking skills to perfection - Ferran Torres’ mentality has always been one of constant self-improvement.
