Pedri: 'I am convinced we will improve with Xavi'
The winner of the Kopa Trophy for 2021 just over a week ago, Pedri González, has spoken about his current situation and that of the Club in an interview with magazine France Football. The young Canary Island midfielder, currently injured, has not yet been able to make his debut under new coach Xavi Hernández but he has no doubts about the future: "I am sure we will get better with Xavi. He has a very clear idea about the game."
The Barça number 16 also explains that he is "very happy to win the Kopa Trophy, it's a reward for all the work put in over the year and it is incredible to be the winner but team titles are the most important." He adds: "I hope it is just the start. It is a proud moment to follow in the footsteps of two giants, Mbappé and De Ligt, they are great players and the future belongs to them."
Pedri also referred to two heroes of Barça history: "We are not always accustomed to seeing midfielders rewarded. For example, Xavi and Iniesta have never won the Ballon d'Or."
Best moments of the season
With regards to his most special moments of last season, Pedri does not hesitate: "The game against Juventus in Turin will always be special. It was my first game in the starting XI in the competition and what's more is that we won and played really well. The other moment is playing alongside Leo Messi, it's easy to enjoy yourself. Every time I played with him, I looked for him. You don't question it, you know he will do it right."
