RePlayed, or the transformation of Barça scarves into a collection of urban streetwear

RePlayed, or the transformation of Barça scarves into a collection of urban streetwear

The Club has handed a second life to the scarves the fans were not able to wave around during the pandemic via a collaboration with the Ared Foundation

The emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic during the 2019/20 season led to, firstly, the suspension of sporting events and later the playing of matches behind closed doors. This situation deprived fans of the chance to go to the stadium with one of the items of clothing most associated with such events: the scarf. As the situation gradually returns to some sort of normality, Barça have wished to give a second life to those scarves that never got the chance to be waved in the stadium and they have been incorporated into the design of a new collection of limited edition of streetwear sweatshirts for the current season.

For this project the Club has collaborated with the Ared Foundation, which helps people in vulnerable situations, the majority of whom are women, for the reinsertion into the society and the labour market. Ambassadors for the ranges include players from the men's and women's football teams with Ansu Fati, Gavi and Nico González taking part alongside Jana Fernández and Clàudia Pina

RePlayed brings together three different designs with the scarves incorporated horizontally into the garment. The first sees a light grey sweatshirt incorporate a scarf with horizontal blaugrana stripes and the name of FC Barcelona which from the side reaches up to cover part of the back with the badge on the opposing side.

The second is a dark grey sweatshirt with a yellow scarf incorporated with blaugrana stripes in the centre with Barça written on the back and the badge to the front. The third is in navy blue with a maroon scarf with the word Barça in a tile design in the same hue of blue with the badge on one of the sides.

An local and responsible upcycling proposal

For the creation of the new 'Càpsula' collection, an example of upcycling, Barça have committed to local and responsible production and have joined forces with the Ared Foundation which helps people in vulnerable situations, the majority of whom are female recently released form incarceration or social services. The production of the collection takes place in Barcelona in the textile workshop situated in the Sant Martí area of the city.

The production of the new streetwear collection was handed by the Ared Reinsertion Center and Special textile workshop, which helps to create a more sustainable and socially responsible society, giving a second opportunity to those people in situations of risk to develop personally and professionally.

An image with a unique perspective

To bring the collection together, the Club has worked with Jordi Puig and Arnau Puig, the audiovisual artists behind Koalitic photography project, who has developed a unique style and who has millions of followers on social media.

Koalitic took charge of one of the photo sessions for the collection that the Club will publish via its official channels over the coming days.
