Mariona extends contract until 2024
Barça Women forward Mariona Caldentey has extended her contract until 30 June 2024. The striker, whose contract ended at the end of the current season, signed on for two more seasons on Thursday in the presence of president Joan Laporta and board member Xavier Puig in the presidential office at Camp Nou.
Despite being just 25 years of age, Mariona Caldentey is one of the key members of the Barça Women squad. She arrived at the Club in 2014 at the age of 18 from Collerense. Since then she has gone on to rise to seventh on the Club's all time appearances list with 211 matches and fifth on the goalscorers' list with 79. Mariona has also scored some vital goals for the team such as in the second leg of the Champions League semi final against Bayern Munich in 2019 and in the final of the Copa de la Reina the season before.
The native of the Balearic Islands is also a fixture in the Spanish national side thanks to her vision, technique and versatility in being able to play anywhere up front as well as in midfield.
Mariona on signing her new contract
“When you are happy in a place and you have the chance to be at Barça then the decision is easy. I was very clear that I wanted to be here and today is a happy day for me."
"I feel at home and that has changed a lot from when I signed my first contract to signing today. Let's hope this path together lasts for years."
"We have created a group and a team in which I can really enjoy myself and I think we entertain people. We have to take advantage of these years."
