Sergio Agüero wants to leave his mark at Barça
Striker Sergio Agüero took a look at how things are going at Barça for him and the team in a joint interview with radio station 'RAC1' and newspaper 'El Periódico'. The Argentine is currently recovering from a calf injury but made it clear that "at Barça you have go for every trophy."
"In some competitions like the Champions League perhaps we are not amongst the favourites but our rivals respect us and we can do well," added the forward. More highlights from the interview below.
Arrival at Barça
"I would sign again for Barça. When the chance came around I said in no uncertain terms that I wanted to come."
"When we started talks with Barça we knew that the Club was not in a good way financially but I said to my agent that I wanted to play here and that money was not an issue."
Recovery from injury
"It's a painful injury, right in the calf and you have to be careful - it seems you are ok but then it starts to hurt again. It's better to take the weeks it needs and then from there we will see how it goes. The last check up was promising."
"When I am fit again, obviously I will start on the bench as nobody is guaranteed a place but I will try to win my place. If you want to start you have to be in shape, the coach has to see you in shape to help the team."
Relationship with Ronald Koeman
"The relationship is a good one since my arrival. He called me before the Copa América. You can tell he is a direct coach and that relaxes the players because it's not easy being a coach but he makes it look so. Being direct he tells you what he thinks and for a player it's better he tells you like it is rather than keeping quiet."
The Champions League
"At Barça we have to fight for every trophy. In the Champions League I don't think we are favourites but our opponents respect us. A lot of people aren't expecting us to do well in the competition but I would say to them all to look out."
Clear objectives
"I don't set myself targets in terms of goals but I do want to win trophies. It's the only things that matters to me. If I score 15 or 30 goals, it's not important if we win a trophy. That, yes, is important for everyone."
"I want to leave my mark here, and I will."
The squad and the departure of Leo Messi
"Important players have left but Barça has the players to cover that."
"It is not true that there a clause for me to leave if Leo is not here and I never wanted to leave. What happened was that I got injured before the Gamper Trophy game and that is when the rumour started I would leave three days after Leo's departure was announced."
"When I arrived Messi was not here but I was clear that I wanted to come to Barça, the best club in the world."
