FC Barcelona 2-3 Olympique Lyonnais (women): Out of the final
The FC Barcelona women’s team have lost their semi-final of the Women's International Champions Cup, and with it suffered their first defeat of the preseason, by going down 3-2 to Olympique Lyonnais in Portland.
In a tight game, the Catalans may have generated the most chances but it was the French team that proved more effective and Barça will now play the Houston Dash for third place.
Blaugrana strike first
Barça took the early lead when a through ball from Aitana found Mariona, but Lyon responded with an onslaught on the Barça goal and soon equalised from a Majri header on 20 minutes.
And seven minutes after that they the French side took the lead through Henry.
Barça pushed hard to get back into the game, but Lyon keeper Endler did well to deny both Graham-Hansen and Alèxia before the interval.
Untaken chances
Barça had chance after chance after the restart, but tight defending, Endler and the woodwork stood in way until Mariona pounced on a rebound to finally get the teams back level.
Although Barça continued to have the upper hand, a late Lyon flurry put Paños under serious pressure and with four minutes to go she was only able to parry away a Majri strike and the ball ended up in the dead zone, where Malart was quickest to it and thus made it 3-2 to Lyon.
Endler dealt with the remaining Barça chances and the defeat means Barça will not be playing in the final of the Women's International Champions Cup and will instead be contesting third place in the tournament with the Houston Dash.
